01
Overview
Problem: Animals such as stray dogs, cows, and cats often overturn dustbins while searching for food. This leads to widespread litter across streets and public spaces, contributing to environmental pollution and visual clutter. Scavenging exposes animals to harmful waste like sharp objects, spoiled food, and chemicals, posing serious health risks. It also results in property mess and reduces overall cleanliness.
Over time, repeated scavenging increases human–animal interactions, which can escalate into unsafe or conflict situations.

02
Approach & Design Brief
Developing a simple, effective lid-lock attachment that prevents animals from accessing trash while remaining intuitive for users. The approach focuses on durable, weather-resistant, and chew-proof materials, combined with a secure yet easy-to-use locking mechanism, adaptable across different bin types and environments.
Design Brief:
Secure lid attachments for bins.

03
Final Design & Impact
Used a standard fabric combined with polystyrene pieces that acted as the structural framework or "skeleton" of the product. A single metal industrial magnet was integrated at the bottom, allowing it to securely attach to the magnet on the dustbin. The design allowed for smooth folding and unfolding, making access and re-locking the dustbin both simple and efficient. This actually made it a simple product design.

SMART USAGE GUIDE
Attach the magnet to the bin body and fix the top piece onto the lid. Align the belt and snap it securely onto the magnet to lock the lid in place. Ensure both ends are firmly attached.
